Notes From Your “New” Editor Ron Gammill
Now, let me thank Dean and Darryl for their excellent work and delivery of our previous KNC Newsletters. Also, a big thank you to Kyle for the distribution and inclusion of the newsletter on our website. They all have done an excellent job.
I also want everyone to understand that both Dean and Darryl will be my “go-to consultants” going-forward. With their help, I hope to maintain the excellent level of coverage of our club meetings, club auctions (anyone recognize the fellow to the right?) and local/regional/national shows.
I also want to provide an educational component with articles from our club officers, board members and our membership.
I particularly want to encourage our Young Numismatists to both write and present at our monthly educational meetings!
THIS IS YOUR NEWSLETTER…WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE TO SEE?
Martha and I have been members of the KNC for over 30 years. I must introduce Martha here because we work hand-in-hand on all things “Numismatic.” So, I might be the editor…but she is the “ghost writer!”
We began attending KNC meetings in the early 1990s at the invitation of Carl Tackett and Bristol Shutes. It wasn’t long before we became Life Members #44 and #45! It has always been a great group! Not many of the old guards remain, but memories are strong and help remind us of who we are!
In 1995, we established “The Kalamazoo Coin Collector.” Then, with a move to Connecticut in 1998, we changed the name to “Gammill Numismatics, LLC.” We spent five wonderful years out in Connecticut, setting up at shows in Boston and New York City (actually the White Plains Shows), but in 2003 moved back to Michigan, and this is where we remain.
Martha enjoys early U.S. half dollars, and Greek and Roman coins. My interest in numismatics has ranged from Lincoln cents, back in the ‘50s, Indian Head Cents, Standing Liberty Quarters, ancient Roman and Greek coins…and currently, just about anything copper. Of course, I was introduced to large cents by none other than Carl Tackett, and it remains one of my very favorites to this very day. I also enjoy Conder Tokens, Russian 5 Kopecks (thanks to my friend Craig Whitford), Civil War Tokens, 18th and 19th Century Medals, and Numismatic History.
Martha and I both are bibliophiles, which is just a fancy word meaning “we love books,” particularly old books related to coins, medals, and numismatic history! The real secret to our collecting: we both love and enjoy history.
