We have had another exceptional quarter at the Kalamazoo Numismatic Club. We have had several productive board meetings and are presently concentrating on our upcoming Fall Club Show…that’s November 1st, and we need your help to make this show another KNC success.
I also want to thank those club members that have submitted articles for publication in our newsletter. Our newsletter is rather lengthy, but it’s loaded with thoughtful ideas, suggestions and plenty of new information about our hobby. It’s been amazing to uncover the numismatic database our members offer. I hope everyone is enjoying the articles.
Also, in this quarter’s newsletter, you will find business advertisements for some of our club members. I encourage you to send me a business card for inclusion in future issues to let readers know about your business interests. You must be a club member.
During this quarter, we have had three very successful club auctions. Our auctions offer between 80 and 130+ lots for your consideration. What is most popular? I believe we enjoy a little bit of everything! Just about the time I believe I see a trend, I walk away surprised at what people are interested in…this is an untapped strength of our club…wide interest and expertise! But that’s not all, our Educational Seminars continue to be one of our showcase events each month. We’ve had three inspiring educational presentations this quarter, all of which were well
attended and received. In July, our vice-president, Bryon Crowder, gave a very detailed presentation on conservation and/vs cleaning of numismatic items. It was a carefully prepared
talk, which resulted in many interesting questions and comments. This was a topic that clearly everyone was interested in, and Bryon will share more in this current newsletter and in future issues. A number of examples were available for our inspection.

Anyone recognize the two fellowssitting with Mary? They were
listening with great attentiveness to Bryon’spresentation!
Our August educational meeting was absolutely fascinating to say the least! Our president Brad Bloom gave a most informative and fascinating talk on unusual types of money. Brad shared items that are in his personal collection, and the questions were almost endless.

Everyone was impressed by the sword shaped “money” Brad shared. The items Brad presented take us back to early history, and to a most interesting and culturally evolving time. All the items Brad shared resulted in many questions, and Brad supplied the answers!

Then in September, ErnieNagy gave another one of his great presentations, this time on collecting coins by type. Ernie gave us a very informative presentation, ranging from half cents to silver dollars with an incredible amount of history about each. Most interesting to me was that Ernie used his personal Type Coin Collection in his slides, and for most of us, that was the “icing on the cake”. We got to see firsthand what he was discussing. Always an enjoyable and informative presentation by Ernie and we are looking forward to the next one!!!

Yes, Ernie had a “Captive Audience”!
