And Then… The MSNS Show in Kalamazoo!

May 7-10, 2025

For the first time, the Michigan State Numismatic Society Show was held at the newly renovated Kalamazoo Expo Center! This is a great venue, and from my conversations with dealers and collectors, everyone enjoyed this new location. Most of the dealers I talked to had a great show. Martha and I certainly enjoyed seeing old friends and making quite a few new collector friends. The biggest problem I heard from dealers was that the attendance was light, and the lack of MSNS advertising was the problem, for the most part.

Why was the show successful? Well, the photo below is the main reason! The MSNS show was cosponsored by both the Grand Rapids Club and the Kalamazoo Club. Our club members, as they do for our two yearly club shows, volunteered for most of the necessary positions.

Always Smiling Faces from the KNC members!

We also had several excellent presentations at the MSNS Show. One was by our Mike Dennany, entitled, “How to Start a YN Group in Your Local Coin Club”. Mike is our MSNS YN
Coordinator & Former Kalamazoo YN Coordinator.

Mike’s Abstract: Join MSNS YN Coordinator as he discusses
ways you can encourage your YNs (Young Numismatists) to join your club and keep them engaged and learning about numismatics in a local club setting.

Thank you, Mike, for your valuable presentation directed toward
our youth!

Another great talk was given by Numismatist Extraordinaire, Clifford Mishler. You will never meet this gentleman that he doesn’t share interesting information about all aspects of our hobby. Never pass up an opportunity to sit down with him for a few minutes. You won’t regret it!

Cliff’s talk was entitled, “75 Years; From Kalkaska to Kalamazoo”.

Cliff’’s Abstract: Clifford will offer a review of some of the highlights of his beginnings and development through 75 years of involvement and growth in our hobby community. It will touch on a wealth of experiences he has had the good fortune to visit along the way, from a visit with England’s Prince Philip to an examination of the gold vaults at Fort Knox.

Clifford was one of the original members of MSNS, along with a variety of other local, state and national clubs/organizations. He has served as president of the American Numismatic Association, Central States Numismatic Society, the Token and Medal Society, and a range of others.

The MSNS Show was a Great Experience for
KNC…we simply need
BETTER ADVERTISEMENT NEXT TIME!
