Educational Form for the 4th Quarter 2024
Our educational presentation for the 4th Quarter was presented by a new, and welcomed, member to our club, Ernie Nagy. As a new member to our club, I asked Ernie for a little background on his numismatic interests.
“I started collecting Lincoln Cents when I received a blue Whitman folder for my birthday in 1962. This album is still not complete, but I continue to work on it, as well as Indian cents, Middle Date Large Cents, Hard Times Tokens from the 1830s, and several other series.
In 2012, I received a 1st place Heath literary award for an article published in The Numismatist titled, ‘Great Numismatic Moments in American Literature,’ and in 2023 received a 1st place David Schenkman literary award for ‘The John Brown Execution Medalet: What is Known About Its Legends, Mottoes, and Origins,’ published in the TAMS (Token and Medal Society) Journal. I enjoy talking to anyone about connections between history, coins, tokens, and medals.”

Ernie gave a very detailed and informative talk on the election campaign medals and tokens to the club. The slide presentation was excellent, full of facts about the medals.
However, his “Cru de Gra” was the medals and tokens he brought with him to share with the club. I didn’t think a couple of our club members were going to let him go home!
As a result of Ernie’s first visit to his “new club,” Ernie and I came up with the following gentlemen’s agreement:
He will give a presentationto the club at least once a year!!! I think we both struck a great deal!
