PERSONAL APPROACH TO OUR SPECIAL HOBBY OF NUMISMATICS

“It Doesn’t Hurt to Ask”
Over the past two years, I have rarely interacted with a bank teller. It’s often just a machine. After the pandemic, ATM machines replaced the three spots where the tellers stood.
Every time I enter the credit union, I ask for $2 notes. Sometimes they have one or two, but occasionally I hit the jackpot. I love getting a fresh stack of sequential $2 notes.
When I get the stack, the first thing I do is check for star notes. Then I spend them. It’s fun to spread these $2 bills around town. It’s a fair estimate to say more than half the population have never seen a $2 bill. If we don’t use them, we may lose them.
Before we left for Florida, I went in for $2 tip money. We wanted to tip with twos at every port of call. John had zero $2 notes, but he knows I also love all things numismatic. He said a member came in with rolls of old money and just wanted to turn it in, “Old money!” My wheels started spinning. What could it be??? John presented me with six rolls of Eisenhower dollars. How fun! 20 Bicentennial Dollars–100 1972-D dollars. My carry-on was a bit heavy on the way to Florida. We spread Ike dollars all over the Eastern Caribbean. It was fun!
